CDP® Certification
Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)® for Champions in the Early Stages of Their Diversity and Inclusion Journey
CDP® Program Introduction
The field of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) is increasingly relevant. Businesses that are committed to DEIA are more likely to be successful, attract and retain top talent, and build a positive workplace culture. As a result, Diversity and Inclusion skills are increasingly important for all professionals, regardless of their career path.
DEI certification indicates
high performance and creates
new opportunities for collaboration and ideation. The Institute for Diversity Certification (IDC)®'s
Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)®
credential is the gold standard for DEIA professionals.
What is a Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)®?
Centering on the day-to-day aspects of workplace Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts, the CDP® is a professional qualification process designed to enhance cultural competency and help an organization enrich its approach to equity and inclusion. All professionals can benefit from the CDP® credential. It helps you gain the skills and confidence you need to lead new Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and make a positive impact in any industry.
A valuable asset for all levels of employee, the CDP® credential assures the public, employers, and colleagues that you have the knowledge, skills, and ability to thrive in the future workplace and marketplace.
A CDP® is a trained Diversity and Inclusion professional, regardless of field. A CDP® achieves, maintains, and advocates for a diverse employee population. The designation encompasses professionals from marketing and legal to human resources and computer programming, or any other capacity. An organization can build a sustainable DEI strategy around the work of a successful CDP®.
CDP® Candidate v. Designee
A Candidate is pursuing certification. A Designee has successfully achieved a Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)® designation. A CDP® Designee can become a Candidate again if pursuing the CDE®, which supersedes and replaces the CDP®.

CDP® Competencies
What CDP® Designees Say
A Proven Process for Inclusive Excellence
CDP® Assessment
What do you need to pass the Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)® assessment? And to do the job effectively?
The CDP® assessment is a rigorous test of your knowledge and skills in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA). In order to pass and be successful, you need to have a strong foundation in Diversity and Inclusion concepts. This includes understanding the different types of discrimination and the best practices for creating a more inclusive workplace.
The assessment process consists of two components; Candidates must pass both portions. Knowledge, skills, and abilities will be assessed through an exam and a peer-reviewed Candidate Project.
Candidates have
one year from the date of registration to pass both portions of the exam within the
CourseNetworking Learning Management System (the CN).
A peer-reviewed Candidate Project, evaluated for thoroughness, accuracy, and impact
100 multiple-choice question examination within a 2.5 hour time limit
CDP® Candidate Project
The Candidate Project demonstrates you have the knowledge to do the work. Beyond understanding the mechanics of DEIA, the professional work indicates that you are also competent in creating Diversity and Inclusion tools that can enhance your effectiveness on the job.
Candidates have one calendar year from the date of registration to complete the full program, but IDC recommends submitting the project before the exam.
While it must be the candidate's own work, group projects are permitted as long as they note the group's members and how each contributed.
Projects are peer-reviewed by current CDP® and/or CDE® Designees and evaluated for thoroughness, accuracy, and impact per the CDP® Candidate Project Blueprint.
Four factors are assessed with a rubric:
Realistic
Possessing a practical and/or accurate idea of what can be accomplished
Intentional
Devising and executing a relevant, sustainable DEI strategy or initiative that achieves deliberate results over time
Usable
Provides insight into data, policies, practices ,and processes; executes plans/projects systematically; analyzes via a culture audit, focus group, etc.; and/or methodically integrates DEIA practices for the organization's benefit
Meaningful
The capacity to determine the quantity, quality, and/or value of DEI efforts; the ability to assess, measure, and compare the organization and its culture using established data with the intent of making a positive impact
CDP® Exam
Adhering to the Certified Diversity Professional (CDP)® Examination Blueprints and Specifications, the computer-based examination consists of 100 multiple-choice questions that must be answered within a 2.5 hour (150 minutes) time limit. Each question has four possible options listed, but only one answer is correct. All of the questions are scored; skipping questions is not advised. Candidates must complete each Domain before moving onto the next section.
All Candidates receive access to an online tutorial that summarizes what will be on the test.
The CDP® exam is a high-stakes, proctored assessment. You can take the exam in person at an authorized testing center or if you are a member of a group, IDC will provide proctors for up to 10 employees per exam session. The test is not an open-book exam.
A passing score is 73.0% or greater.
Exam Preparation
Exam preparation can occur through professional experiences, college certificate or graduate programs, and other educational offerings.
IDC’s preparatory course and/or materials are NOT a requirement for this examination or certification. IDC's materials are not the only method to prepare for the certification exam.
Candidates receive access to an online tutorial that summarizes what will be on the test. The exam fee includes the test and online tutorial only; it does not include the study guide.
IDC assumes that exam-only candidates prepared elsewhere or during a previous IDC exam cycle.
